THE AVENGING SISTERHOOD TAKES CHARGE — A REVIEW

When billionaire Myra Rutledge’s daughter Barbara is hit by a car and killed, she is devastated. Not only because she has lost her only daughter, who happened to be pregnant with her grandchild at the time, but because nothing can be done to vindicate the death. The diplomat who hit her with his car has immunity and goes unpunished.

Time passes and Myra sinks further into depression. Then Nikki, her daughter’s friend, whom Myra has raised, is faced with a difficult case in which another victim’s killer is set free, and something rises up in her. She calls in the “troops” to meet at her farm in McLean, Virginia, and the plots began.

Myra happens to know of several other victims whose crimes against them went unpunished, and they form a Sisterhood. In her basement War Room, with the help of her high-tech securities genius, Charles, the women come up with a plan. In turn, they will all “punish” the unpunished.

First up will be Kathryn Lucas, who was raped and brutalized by three bikers while her disabled husband watched, unable to do anything. Now her husband is dead and she wants justice.

What follows next is a plot that thickens and unfolds, directed toward a delicious vengeance. The details are impeccably arranged and the games begin.

Yes, the planned revenge is a bit over the top, and indeed the avenging women are pursuing a vigilante-style justice. Maybe the fun is in watching them achieve it, while knowing that all could come toppling down at any moment.

I have read other books in this series, but this one is the first. I enjoyed seeing how the whole Sisterhood thing came together and unleashed its vengeance on those who are going about their lives without paying consequences. Weekend Warriors was exciting, dramatic, and kind of fun. I give this one four stars.
